Like all organizations, Volvo Construction Equipment (VCE) has experienced some particularly challenging years with Covid 19, raw material shortages, capacity constraints, supply routes disruptions, energy crisis and war. Surprisingly, despite some of these factors, the demand for our products has continued to be strong in most of the markets we serve.
Due to this, there has been a lot of stress built up in the organization, both in terms of ways of working and processes, as well as in the employees.
At the same time there is a growing demand for sustainable products and business models, including circularity, as well as increasing availability of tools for data analysis through the fast digitalization.
One can now imagine several potential scenarios going forward when trying to answer the question of how the next coming years will play out. What we do know is that the level of uncertainty remains high, but also that we have a lot of experiences to learn from.
For VCE, like any organization, it is important to be able to plan. One element of this is to anticipate and mitigate various risks and market fluctuations to establish a more resilient and sustainable supply chain.
Suitable background:
You are master students of Engineering, Business administration, Economics or similar.
In the selection process for this thesis, we will look for candidates with a good fit to Volvo AB values and a willingness to learn, a growth mindset.
Description of thesis work:
We believe there is plenty of experience and knowledge in various functions within VCE related to the challenges of the past years, that need to be gathered and analyzed. By gathering this as input and with support from theory and external best practices, the expectation is that the students propose updated ways of working to improve VCE's Supply Chain Resilience. The proposal should take into consideration the future needs related to sustainability, such as the need for traceability linked to circular business models with Product passports as well as the influence digitalization may have on VCE's approach to plan for future scenarios.
You will be given the opportunity to present your end report to our executive leaders in Purchasing, Demand Planning, and other relevant functions to assure your ideas are anchored well in VCE's organization
Are you the ones helping Volvo CE to a more sustainable, predictable, and resilient future? Please apply today!
