Structural CAE Engineer Traction Batteries

As Structural CAE Engineer at Traction Batteries, you will develop simulation methods within the structural and durability area for traction batteries and see to that the models are validated. You will utilize the methods developed in the increasing number of battery electric and hybrid vehicle projects.

We at PES (Propulsion Energy Systems) are now investing heavily in developing our analysis operations for traction batteries in terms of simulations and through developing our new battery lab. The analyses of traction batteries grow fast and challenges both VCC, battery suppliers and our OEM competitors.

Your responsibilities as First Mechanical CAE Engineer will include development of simulation methods for structural parts of batteries in close cooperation with mechanical design and simulations engineers both internally and from other departments like durability and safety. You will also interact with colleagues, at other units within R&D or external companies and organizations.

Main responsibilities
* Develop simulation methods for structural simulations of traction batteries
* Initiate tests and analyse results for validation of simulation methods developed
* Utilize the above to dimension traction batteries
* Create technical documentation incl reports
* Contribute to strategic development in the field
* Collaborate within own and other R&D departments within Volvo Cars, like durability, safety and NVH
* Coordinate external work e.g. with suppliers and universities

Required qualifications
* Master degree in Mechanical Engineering with focus on applied mechanics
* Strong analytic abilities, since job requires ingenuity and creativity
* Extensive experience for at least 6 years from structural simulations, preferably on body & white component (sheet metal) and safety.
* Long experience with relevant tools, like Ansa, Abaqus and LS-Dyna
* Fluent in English, written and spoken
* Driver 's license B

* Result oriented with a structured way of working
* Able to act independently as well as to cooperate within a team
* Broad vehicle interest and knowledge, especially in vehicle electrification
