The arena

Cardiovascular & Gastrointestinal Innovative Medicines Unit (CVGI iMed) is based in its world class vibrant R&D center, located in Mölndal, Sweden (Gothenburg area). The cardiovascular section within CVGI iMED Bioscience are currently exploring stem cell opportunities. We aim to discover new targets and therapeutic molecules for treatment of cardiac disorders. The section is responsible for identifying, proposing and validating new drug targets including in vitro and in vivo testing

The role

A senior stem cell bioscientist with a role in identifying new target opportunities within the area of cardioprotection including regenerative medicine approaches and stem cells. The stem cell biologist/principal scientist will work closely with the cardiac disease area scientists on the identification of potential therapeutic applications for stem cells and the contribution to drug discovery, in a first step for cardiac regeneration. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing stem cell assays and provide expert input regarding signalling pathways important for stem cell function and adaption to pathophysiological situations. The stem cell biologist will be responsible for exploring the possibilities to use stem cell science and apply stem cell technology to cardiovascular disease areas. He/she will lead by example at the bench and encourage the development of less experienced scientists. As senior scientists, he/she will contribute to the scientific reputation of AZ through publication of his/her work in peer reviewed journals and presentations at external meetings.
