User Experience as a discipline is a key part of Volvo Cars' strategy. The maturing User Experience organisation, which celebrated its two-year anniversary in April 2022, gathers insights about our users and redefines and elevates their experience of Volvo's products and services.
We are seeking a Senior VisualUX Designer to expand our Driving Experience team, a team whose goal is to understand and evaluate all legal, technical, local and ambient information streams and vehicle-specific functionality to create the best strategy and execution for a safe and naturalistic display and control of information.
What you will do
As a Senior Visual UX Designer in the Car UX team, you will work on defining and building a safe and effortless experience for our users, to make the car their own through different driving functionalities and controls. Your responsibilities will include identifying problems to be solved, mapping out desirable and feasible solutions for our users through, for example, utilizing user journeys and prototyping that balance design aesthetics with intuitive functionality.
You will collaborate with other designers and ensure a seamless customer experience across Volvo's digital landscape. And as part of a product team, you will communicate designs, ideas, and rationale with your team using data and customer insights.
As a designer you advocate for the user and develop a deep understanding of our customer needs and pain-points, serving as an expert for your product team and develop ideas for new and enhanced features.
Your focus will be in developing technically-informed and people-focused hypotheses and designs on how to humanize the way to present driver-centric information to our users. You have strong visual design skills and a track record that demonstrates how you create and build on top of existing design systems.
The design challenges you will jump into will focus on how to most adequately visualise and communicate different states of vehicle functionality and do it in a way that connects with the larger platform system. Your bread and butter will be to understand and untangle complex technical functionalities and requirements and structure them in a clear and glanceable way to our users.

Who you are
You've been designing for 6+ years for a consumer-focused tech company, so you understand what it takes to create elegant, consumer-oriented experiences.
You know that appropriate design solutions come not from a brief or a focus group but rather from the deep understanding of our users, their context and the challenges created by technology within that context.
You are a versatile designer who uses a full range of skills-product design, interaction design, and visual design or prototyping - to ensure you deliver magical experiences to the customer.
You are a strong collaborator, who can work with not only design partners, but many other stakeholders from marketing to engineering.
You're a strong communicator who can inspire teams towards action and empathy for the user.
You have a people-focused design mentality, constantly looking to hone your design instinct through user feedback, whether that's hands-on user research or a quantitative A/B test.
You have visual skills to deliver rich concepts and production ready designs that balance design aesthetics with intuitive functionality.
