We are growing our diverse and creative team and are therefore recruiting a Senior Scientist within Computational Chemistry/Cheminformatics to join our Respiratory, Inflammation & Autoimmunity (RIA) department in Gothenburg
AstraZeneca is committed to the development of the next generation of innovative respiratory medicines and we want you on board to drive development forward. You will be part of our Computational Chemistry team, dedicated to leading the efforts of expanding the use of state of the art in silico methods for modelling, ligand design, property predictions and data analysis, supporting the projects. The team operates in a highly cross disciplinary environment in close collaboration with scientists from the Chemistry, Bioscience, DMPK and Pharmaceutical Sciences departments to advance the RIA project pipeline.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
You will have a profound impact on multiple projects across the RIA portfolio. Your focus will be on developing and applying new machine learning algorithms to support target specific and disease area specific questions from hit identification to lead optimization.
You will take on a key role in modelling and analysis of small and large datasets in the design of novel drugs and fully contribute to project progression.
You will join a large on-site cheminformatics and machine learning community, providing discipline based scientific insight and represent the department and AstraZeneca at interdisciplinary meetings and conferences.
We expect you to:
* Apply profound expertise within machine learning to a variety of drug discovery projects
* Support project teams with analysis, interpretation and visualization of chemical and biological data, as well as communicating the results within project teams and departments
* Identify and drive areas of scientific improvements by applying excellent knowledge of modern computational chemistry and cheminformatics
* Plan, write and publish high quality scientific papers
* Take an active position in ML platform teams to identify and deliver global solutions for key scientific questions
Essential Requirements
We believe that you are an engaged scientist with a with a strong computational background. You have a high degree of independence and strong expertise in machine learning supplemented by programming skills, which you will utilize by assist in the advancement of discovery programs.
* PhD or equivalent experience in computational chemistry, chemistry, computer science, statistics or a related field
* Proven knowledge of applied machine learning and chemistry
* Basic knowledge of medicinal chemistry
* Expertise in using different machine learning techniques and software as well as knowledge in scientific computing
* Programming skills (e.g. Python, Perl, C, C++, Java)
* Excellent interpersonal as well as communicational skills
Desirable Requirements
* Proven track record of working in drug design projects
* Experience from industry
