The Research & Innovation organization (R&I) team is a central function at SMT supporting all divisions with developing the material solutions of the future and maintaining our world leading position as a materials technology company. Our materials are used in the most demanding environments where our products contribute to our customers efficiency, productivity and process reliability.
Our Powder Research department is organized within R&I and focuses on alloy and application development within the field of Powder Metallurgy. This field consists of different technologies which enables manufacturing of solutions and materials beyond what is possible today with conventional metallurgical processes. The main technologies of interest are Gas Atomization, Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP; both for Near Net Shape applications and billets for tube/wire/strip applications) and Additive Manufacturing (AM).
We are now looking for a goal-oriented and creative Senior R&D Engineer to strengthen our Powder Research Department in our mission to fully utilize the potential within powder metallurgy to solve the material challenges of the future. You have a true passion and enthusiasm for the future development of materials and alloys and we offer you an inspiring research environment at the frontline of an exciting area of technology.
Job Summary
As Senior R&D Engineer you lead and participate in various projects and tasks ranging from strategic alloy development, solving manufacturing process related issues to application development in collaboration with customers. You will work closely with all parts of SMT where powder metallurgy is used, as well as establishing contacts with relevant parts of SMT where powder metallurgy could be utilized to solve complex problems for customers or improve our own productivity and profitability.
Our projects and assignments are based on technical requirements and demands from both external customers and the internal sales & marketing organization. You enjoy collaborating and communicating with multiple stakeholders maintaining qualitative and prosperous relationships.
Your profile
We are looking for someone with a Master of Science (MSc.) degree, or a PhD, in materials science, metallurgy, physics or chemistry, and proven track record of some years' experience from materials research, process and product/application development. Experience from working with the Gas Atomization, HIP and AM processes is greatly advantageous. Since you will actively participate in technical discussion in international context within the competence area, excellent communication skills in English is a prerequisite for the position, and knowledge in Swedish is desirable.
