For our office in Stockholm we are looking for a Senior Nordic Trading Meteorologist (m/f/d) in the Trading Analysis & Algorithms department.
The Trading Analysis & Algorithms department within the Business Unit Trading works closely with the trading desks and takes a leading role in providing market insights, (fundamental and quantitative) analysis, and ultimately commercial decision support across all commodity areas.

Your main tasks and responsibilities as a Senior Nordic Trading Meteorologist:
Keep track of the latest weather forecasts and their impact on the power markets, in both short and long-term perspectives, covering foremost the Nordic market
Communicate current weather developments and provide related advise to traders and portfolio managers through various communication channels
Play an active role in developing (systematic and discretionary) weather-driven trading strategies in the short to mid-term horizon
Further develop the quantitative weather models and tools, and conduct commercially relevant quantitative analyses
Play an active role in further developing and automating routines, procedures, and applications for weather-related information and data
Keep track of the latest, commercially relevant weather research and provide related advise
Be part of the Trading Analysis & Algorithms department and contribute to its analysis output as well as the commercial success of BU Trading
Educate traders in relevant weather-related topics.


Our ideal Senior Nordic Trading Meteorologist has the following qualifications and capabilities:
Strong academic background with a Master's degree or higher in meteorology, or physics/ mathematics with a dominant part in meteorological applications
5+ years' experience from operational weather forecasting in in a commercial or trading environment at energy companies, banks, or hedge funds with a proven track record
Good hydrological and/or wind understanding
Good mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills
Good programming (esp. Python) and data analysis/mining skills
Knowledge of machine learning techniques advantageous but not required
Fluency in English and ideally Swedish (or Norwegian alternatively) - both written and spoken
Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate with various internal stakeholders and the willingness to share your knowledge
Result-orientated, independent working method with high reliability and readiness to take on responsibility
Proactive team player with eagerness to learn
Willingness to start working early in the morning.

We serve as Vattenfall's single market access to energy commodity markets trading in electricity, emissions, fuels, freight, and renewable certificates. We are responsible for generating profits by taking positions within defined risk mandates and limits. We are active across Europe with around 450 professionals working from Sweden, Germany, The Netherlands, and Denmark.
Within Markets the Business Unit (BU) Trading is the energy trading hub of the Vattenfall Group. BU Trading is responsible for all trading activities around Vattenfall 's asset and customer flows to maximize value creation and improve sourcing costs. It provides all market access services for standard OTC and exchange-based energy commodities for the Vattenfall Group, which means managing all hedge flows, from generation assets or customers, by our market access function. Next to handling our flow business, BU Trading also has a proprietary mandate.
