Senior Analytical Chemist
About the job:
We are now looking for a candidate that will work as analytical chemist within our early research projects. The position is permanent and based in the Analytical Chemistry group within the Research department in Uppsala, a site with responsibilities for the Aesthetics & Corrective (A&C) products.
The Research department in Uppsala is reporting to the Research Director in Sophia-Antipolis, France, and there is a close collaboration with colleagues at Galderma Scientific Division in France, the world's largest R&D center specialized in dermatology.
The main focus for Analytical Chemistry is to characterize new biomaterials for aesthetic treatments, mainly gel material based on polysaccharides, but other material can also be of interest.
Your main responsibilities include
• Identify relevant and adequate techniques to solve specific analytical characterization questions and needs
• Develop analytical methods that match the needs of the early research chemistry projects
• Responsible for planning, conducting and reporting analyses, both independently and in cooperation with others
• Function as an advisor to organic chemists in the basic characterization of synthesized materials by spectroscopic and chromatographic methods.
• Writing and reviewing scientific reports within the field
• Participate in cross-site and cross-functional project and activities as expert in analytical chemistry
• Collaborate with colleagues from R&D in Sophia-Antipolis as well as external contacts
About you:
• Ph.D. in analytical chemistry
• Solid practical experience of analytical chemistry preferentially in an industrial environment
• Strong background in the theory and practice of chromatography, especially HPLC, GC, SEC, as well as chromatography hyphenated to mass spectrometry, especially GC-MS.
• Experience of alternative detection techniques such as fluorescence, RI, PAD, is desirable
• Experience of analyses in the field of polysaccharide chemistry and hydrogels is a strong merit
• Experience of carbohydrate analyses by GC and GC-MS is a strong merit
• Experience of advanced sample preparation for GC, including derivatization methods
• Experience of MALDI-TOF MS and light scattering techniques, such as MALS, are merits
• Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Highly motivated and demonstrated ability to work in teams as well as independently
• High multi-tasking capacity
