Are you an ADME scientist with experience in cell culture and in vitro techniques? We have an assignment at AstraZeneca in the Cardiovascular & Metabolic Disease (CVMD) area.
AstraZeneca is a major international healthcare business engaged in the research, development, manufacture and marketing of prescription pharmaceuticals and the supply of healthcare services. AstraZeneca is proud to offer a unique workplace culture that inspires innovation and collaboration. Co-workers are empowered to express diverse perspectives - and are made to feel valued, energized and rewarded for their ideas and creativity.
The Arena:
We lead our industry in our development of a strong and varied pipeline. This means our people are here to win. We give you a breadth of opportunities to be curious and do cutting edge, unique work that has big impact on science and medicine.
Cardiovascular & Metabolic Diseases (CVMD) is one of the three main therapeutic research area within Innovative Medicines and Early Development (IMED) which deliver candidate drugs into late-stage clinical development. CVMD is based in AstraZeneca's world-class vibrant R&D center, located in Gothenburg, Sweden. CVMD DMPK interacts with other functions in supporting CVMD projects all along the value chain, from target selection all the way to market launch and Life cycle management.
Now we are looking for an ADME scientist with good knowledge in the area of in-vitro studies to investigate absorption, metabolism, distribution and excretion of drugs and drug metabolites, to join our team in the CVMD DMPK department. The team you will be part of is focusing on metabolism, bio distribution and disposition of small molecule, conjugated peptide and nucleotide drug candidates. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the discovery of new life changing medicines for patients and demonstrate and witness what science can do.
The role requires interactive, effective communication to provide clear data and guidance to project representatives, act as an example to other scientists, and contribute to the overall team delivery. It will also require making judgements about in-vitro generated information, and applying cross-disciplinary understanding.
Tasks and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for design and conduct of laboratory projects/experiments, generate, interpret and report scientific data to support decision making in projects.
The suitable candidate has a good understanding of the range of procedures relating to in-vitro ADME models (drug disposition through metabolism, uptake and efflux transport) as well as tissue distribution. The work spans both data delivery from established assays, involvement in method development and in bespoke experimental research to respond to project issues. The data generated is mainly aimed to provide insight to right tissue and right exposure aspects including the fates of drug molecules/metabolites. The role will require making judgements about in-vitro generated information, developing innovative solutions and applying cross-disciplinary understanding. It requires interactive, effective communication to provide clear data and guidance to project representatives, act as an example to other scientists, and contribute to the overall team delivery.
It may include presentation of data at lab, section or department meetings as appropriate and contribution to publications.
Minimum requirements and key factors:
• Minimum Master degree or equivalent qualification
• Background in Pharmacy, Biology, Biochemistry, Medical Biosciences or similar
• Versatile in in-vitro laboratory skills (e.g. enzyme and transporter kinetic studies), handling of human cells (e.g. conducting hepatocyte and other cell based assays, cell culture)
• Track record of delivering state-of-the-art in-vitro data to projects in discovery and/or development setting
• Understand of DMPK
• Basic understand of the overall drug discovery and development process
• Good communication skills in English, both verbal and in writing are required
• Demonstrated ability to work in team and independently
Preferred experience:
• Experience in the area of hepatic in-vitro models, drug metabolism
• Experience from industry environment a plus, but not mandatory.
• Experience in bioanalytical techniques, e.g. LC-MS
