Translational Sciences (TS) Department in CVMD iMed has the remit to bridge pre-clinical, early and late drug development by providing early target validation in human and by driving precision medicine approaches through biomarker science.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a Scientist, Bioinformatics in the Translational Science (TS) Bioinformatics group you will play a key role in supporting pre-clinical and early clinical projects or patient studies to drive human target validation, experimental models evaluation and biomarkers discovery. In this role, you will

• play a key role in advancing the team's bioinformatics and systems biology strategy focused on heart failure (HF), type 2 diabetes (T2D), chronic kidney disease(CKD) and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH).
• identify relevant human-centric 'omics' datasets and analyze them to create novel hypothesis for target identification and prioritization. Dataset for analysis will be public and proprietary, and will include transcriptomic (microarray and RNA-seq), proteomic, interactomic and metabolomics.
• You will be also responsible for integration of multivariate data from different modalities (including clinical phenotypes and biomarkers when available).
• benchmark and deploy existing bioinformatics approaches/pipelines, and develop novel computational approaches.
• be responsible to find new ways of interpreting, modelling or finding meaningful patterns in complex data.
• have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of CVMD human target validation strategy.
• foster a culture of scientific excellence through regular publication of your work in peer reviewed journals, and participation in scientific forums.

Essential Requirements

• Master degree in one of the following disciplines - life science, bioinformatics, genetics/genomics, computational biology, systems biology
• Hands on experience in analyzing data generated using one or more platforms e.g. expression arrays, proteomics, lipidomics and/or next generation sequencing technologies.
• Experience in pathway and network analysis approaches to generate biological hypothesis.
• Experience in working with bioinformatics portals/databases such as UCSC Genome Browser, NCBI Entrez, dbSNP etc.
• Good programming skills in Perl/Python and high degree of familiarity with R/Bioconductor.
• Expert in using Linux command-line tools and writing shell scripts.
• Awareness of graph modeling, machine learning, Bayesian analytics or other non-traditional approaches to model biological data
• An enthusiasm to explore non-traditional approaches to bring big data together in biologically meaningful ways.
• Experience of working in collaborative projects involving cross-disciplinary and global teams.
• Skilled in effective communication of complex data to a non-expert.
