We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic leader to head the Science Division at MAX.
This is a permanent research position at Lund University with a renewable 5-year assignment as MAX IV Science Director.
The MAX IV Science Division is primarily responsible for planning and carrying out the scientific program at MAX IV, including building, commissioning and operating beamlines and other state-of-the-art instrumentation. The division supports the MAX IV user community in using the laboratory, conducts in-house research and consists of more than 100 people. The Science Director reports directly to the MAX IV Director and will be part of a highly motivated and collaborative senior leadership team consisting of the Machine Director, the Administrative Director and the Technical Director under the leadership of the MAX IV Director.
Your main tasks and responsibilities will be
- Develop the long-range scientific strategy for MAX IV together with the MAX IV Director and the leadership team
- Contribute to strategic processes as a member of the MAX IV leadership team
- Lead the MAX IV operational teams (today 11) responsible for the scientific mission of MAX IV, specifically, the beamline user and in-house research programs
- Strengthen existing collaborations and establish new collaborations with Swedish and other universities, laboratories, and industries.
- Foster leadership and career growth opportunities for the science division staff
To be successful in this role you need to have the following qualifications
- PhD degree in natural science, engineering or a related area with own experience of synchrotron-based research
- Internationally recognized scientist with a strong network in one or more domains of science and in synchrotron radiation-based research at the international level
- Documented leadership experience including managing teams of scientists in a laboratory environment or at an equivalent facility
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience in building and operating state of-the-art synchrotron instrumentation
- Fluent in English, both oral and written

- Experience as a principal investigator in successful major funding applications
- Scientific network in Sweden and knowledge of the Swedish funding landscape
- Ability to effectively communicate scientific research to both experts and to the public
- Fluency in a Scandinavian language, oral and written
