A 24 months full time position is available within the research group led by Ali Harandi, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Institute for Biomedicine, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. The focus of the research group is on vaccine evaluation, particularly on studying novel immunization strategies and the mode of action of vaccines and adjuvants. The group has extensive collaboration with other universities and institutions internationally and has significant funding through e.g. IMI- and European Commission.
Job assignments
The development of novel vaccines may be facilitated by a deeper understanding of the mechanisms of action of vaccines or their individual components as they pertain to their interaction with the immune system. The research group is currently involved in several European Commission-funded collaborative projects with the main objective to improve our understanding of vaccine mechanisms of action. The research is done by employing conventional immunological methods with cutting-edge omics technologies.
The researcher is expected to conduct studies and coordinate activities with other partners within one or more of the ongoing EU supported vaccine projects. In particular, the researcher will be responsible for conducting research on evaluation of the affinity and characterizing the neutralizing epitopes targeting ability of antibodies induced by vaccine candidates using surface plasmon resonance and Bio Layer Interferometry technologies along with the conventional serology methods.
Qualifications
A PhD in immunology or other relevant areas, and a postdoc experience on characterisation of B cell/antibody responses in humans following vaccination is required. Hands on experience and knowledge on studying antibody affinity/avidity using surface plasmon resonance and Bio Layer Interferometry technologies is also a required merit. The successful candidate will have excellent communicative skills particularly regarding scientific communication in English, a high degree of autonomy, a developed way of critical thinking, and documented ability to work successfully in a group.
Employment
Fixed-term employment fulltime for 24 months at the Institute of Biomedicine. First day of employment as agreed.
