The research activities within the Department of Biology and Environmental Science include the areas of aquatic ecology, cell and organism biology, evolutionary biology, microbiology, environmental science and environmental engineering as well as zoonotic ecology. The research project will investigate the deep biosphere present in crystalline rock fracture systems. The project will use high throughput nucleic acid sequencing based 'omics' techniques, experimental investigation of organic matter degradation, and interpretation of culturing experiments related to long term storage of nuclear waste.
General requirements
To be qualified for the appointment, the candidate should possess a PhD in Environmental microbiology.
Specific requirements refer to
• Experience of investigating the deep biosphere by both culturing and molecular methods, knowledge of handling large 'omics' data sets, and statistical analysis methods.
• Experience of applied aspects of microbiology in relation to deep repositories for disposal of nuclear waste.
• High proficiency in written and spoken English.

• Have the ability to work independently as well as interact well in a research group.

Terms of employment:
Employment and scope: 100 %, for six months. The employment is scheduled to start October 1, 2020, or as soon as the position can be filled.
Placement city: Kalmar, Sweden.
