The University of Gothenburg tackles society's challenges with diverse knowledge. 53 500 students and 6 500 employees make the university a large and inspiring place to work and study. Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.

The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.

The Institute is composed of the following four departments:

• The Department of Infectious Diseases
• The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
• The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
• The Department of Laboratory Medicine

At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 450 million SEK in total assets

Job assignments

The tasks also include supervision of doctoral students and postdocs. Some teaching and administrative tasks are also included.

In addition, a 50% assignment is included as development manager for new laboratory analyzes that may be offered to researchers at the faculty. The assignment is located within Core Facilities (CF) and the Clinical Genomics Gothenburg unit (CGG), which is also part of SciLifeLab.

Techniques included that a candidate is expected to master to perfection include the cultivation of human cells as well as biochemical and cell biological techniques. Furthermore, the candidate must be knowledgeable in advanced sequencing methods for large-scale characterization of genetic and epigenetic changes such as mapping of DNA methylation, 5-hydroxymethylation and histone modifications, primarily in the genome of mammals.

Qualifications
PhD within Life Science or Medicine is required. The candidate should have a solid scientific background, with a strong publication track record. Independent funding from major granting agencies is a strong merit. Documented experience of the techniques / methods included in the tasks is a prerequisite, such as Chromatin Immunoprecipitation assays (ChIP), methylation arrays, RNA sequencing, MeDIP sequencing, hMeDIP sequencing, RIP sequencing, ChRIP sequencing and ChIP sequencing. Experience of various programs for bioinformatics analysis and presentation of results, such as R, UCSC Genome Browser, ENSEMBL, CLUSTALW, ChIP-Atlas, Reactome, Genomic analysis and Visualization, Integrative Genomic viewer, Vector NTI express, Excel, Graph Prism, etc, are also necessary.

The candidate should have documented leadership and teaching qualifications including PhD student supervision and academic assignments.
