The Institute of Clinical Sciences is one of six Institutes within the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg. The Institute represents fifteen different research areas engaged in the research and education at the University of Gothenburg: Anesthesiology and Intensive care, Biomaterials, Dermatology and Venereology, Gastrosurgical Research and Education, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Oncology, Orthopaedics, Otorhinolaryngology, Pediatrics, Plastic Surgery, Radiation Physics, Radiology and Urology. The Institute also includes a center for information regarding rare diseases.
The successful applicant will be part of a translational group whose research has the overall objective to define the irradiation-induced pathophysiological processes that impair the intestinal health of cancer survivors. The knowledge might provide the tools to prevent, diagnose, alleviate and maybe even eliminate the lifelong complications that arise after treatment of, for an example, gynecological cancers or prostate cancer.
Job assignments
The applicant is expected to work independently as researcher. The work includes designing and execute experiments all the way from idea to data, interpret data and prepare manuscripts for publication. The laboratory work includes using an experimental model of radiation-induced diseases of the intestinal tract. Small-field radiation techniques using linear accelerators, management and analysis of tissue, blood and fecal samples. Assistance in the collection of human intestinal tissue and the execution of relevant laboratory analyses.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant field, preferably with a strong background in radiation biology and stem cell biology. Extensive experience with experimental models of small-field radiation is necessary. The successful applicant should provide a scientific breadth of knowledge, provide expertise in experimental design, and be able to implement data collection, interpret and report data from pre-clinical, clinical and epidemiological methods. High proficiency of spoken and written English is necessary. Great emphasis is placed on social skills to maintain positive group dynamics.

The employment is limited (temporary) for 2 months, 100 % of full-time and is placed at The Institute of Clinical Sciences, The Department of Oncology. Starting date; As soon as possible
