Strong research and attractive study programmes attract scientists and students from around the world. With new knowledge and new perspectives, the University contributes to a better future.
The Institute of Biomedicine is involved in both research and education. In both of these areas, we focus on fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.
The Institute is composed of the following five departments:
•
The Department of Infectious Diseases
•
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology
•
The Department of Pathology and Genetics
•
The Department of Clinical Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine
•
The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology
At present, the institute has about 360 employees and approximately 400 million SEK in total assets.
Job assignments

A good understanding and previous experience in the techniques of cell biology and molecular genetics is important. This will also include tracer studies that is using labeled tracers to uncover metabolic pathways and their regulation both in vitro and in vivo. Well acquainted with biochemical methods for the analysis of peptides and proteins using electrophoresis, HPLC, thermophores, and proteomics and knowledge to be able to evaluate obtained results. Of particular importance is being able to utilize mass spectrometry to quantify protein levels and modifications as well as RNA quantification and subsequent bioinformatics analysis.
Qualifications
Ph. D. in biochemistry or equivalent with long experience of research and methods in cell biology and molecular genetics. Particular emphasis is placed on work with genetic regulation of intermediate metabolism. Experience in the use of animal models is desirable.
