The Swedish Museum of Natural History (NRM) is one of Europe's largest research museums with over 150 staff employed by its research division. The Department of Geosciences (GEO) at NRM hosts the Swedish national laboratory for isotope geology, which is equipped with state-of-the-art analytical instruments (TIMS, LA-ICP-MS, SIMS) and support facilities. The Nordsim facility, which has operated as a Nordic infrastructure since 1994, is based around a CAMECA IMS1280 large geometry ion microprobe. In addition to supporting infrastructure projects, the academic staff members at GEO run externally funded projects and collaborative research programs involving both national and international institutions, together with training of researchers at PhD. and post-doctoral level. Current research programs in isotope geochemistry are focused on crustal evolution, planetary sciences and low temperature isotope geochemistry. The isotope facilities at GEO are currently part of a national consortium that plans to integrate complementary facilities across Sweden into a single national infrastructure for microanalysis and microimaging.
