We are looking for a person who has a keen interest in freshwater ecology and who has well-developed skills in statistical analysis.
About the position
Freshwater habitats are among the World's most degraded ecosystems, due to the impacts of inter alia nutrient pollution, hydromorphological modification, and biodiversity loss. A diverse array of management solutions have been implemented to reverse these impacts. These range from local scale river habitat restoration in streams, to nature-based solutions intended underpin ecological improvement at the catchment scale, including maintenance of multifunctional wetlands capable of supporting biodiversity, reducing nutrient export and enhancing flood protection. However, both river habitat and wetland rehabilitation projects are frequently implemented without any follow-up ecological assessment, which limits the capacity of scientists and managers to evaluate the efficacy of management for biodiversity.
We are seeking to employ a research engineer to work on compilation and analysis of biodiversity data from both river restoration and wetland rehabilitation projects. You will also undertake new biodiversity inventories in wetlands.
Your profile
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in Ecology, with specialization in the ecology of freshwater ecosystems. Well-developed skills in statistical analysis using the software "R" are essential, including in one or more of the following approaches: general linear modelling, structural equations modelling, variance partitioning analysis, multivariate analyses. Previous experience working in either the field or laboratory with at least two of the following freshwater organism groups is highly meritorious: freshwater microbes (bacteria and/or fungi), benthic macroinvertebrates, and freshwater macrophytes. A driver's license and excellent spoken English are essential, and a knowledge of Swedish would be advantageous as interaction with local stakeholders may be required.
About us
