hela Sverige The Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology was founded in the late 1970s - when the College of Forestry moved to Umeå. The number of employees has since grown steadily is now around 100, including postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate students. In the late 1990s it was decided to join with the Department of Plant Physiology at Umeå University to form a research center, Umeå Plant Science Centre (UPSC). The Department of Forest Genetics and Plant Physiology moved into the premises adjacent to the partner department and together have developed a close and successful collaboration on research issues, technology platforms, and training of master's and doctoral level students. The international element within UPSC is large, with over 40 nationalities represented.
The department conducts introductory and advanced training in plant physiology, ecophysiology, plant molecular biology, forest genetics and forest biotechnology within the Forestry program and at the master level.
The department offers postgraduate studies in biology, specializing in plant physiology, ecophysiology, plant molecular biology and forest genetics. Postgraduate courses are generally held in cooperation with the Department of Plant Physiology.

The goal for the overall project is to identify the role of symplastic trafficking in bud dormancy in hybrid aspen. We have previously identified several regulators of bud dormancy. In this project suitable candidate will use genetic and cell biological methods to elucidate the role of these regulators in symplastic trafficking via plasmodesmata and writing a manuscript based on the results in consultation with the PI for the biological interpretations.
Qualifications:
PhD in a relevant biological field.The applicant should have a strong documented strong background in using confocal and electron microscopy and immunochemistry. Additionally previous experience of working with hybrid aspen and knowledge of bud dormancy is essential. Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Applicants for the position with a background in animal/human sciences will not be considered. The application should contain (1) CV with full publications and copiers of the relevant degree certificates, (2) description of research experiences, (3) a statement of scientific interests and of previous experience of relevance to this position as well as (4) contact information of referees.
