The department of materials and manufacturing is a vibrant multidisciplinary research environment that advances the state-of-the-art knowledge and fosters the development of highly skilled researchers and professionals. Our research focuses on material properties and manufacturing processes for mainly metallic components. The department cooperates with various national and international research institutes as well as industrial partners and is engaged in basic and applied research projects. Coproduction with industrial partners is a strong characteristic of our project portfolio, both with large companies and SMEs.
Work assignments
The work will mainly include the operation and maintenance of equipment within the structural characterisation of metallic and polymer materials (electron microscopy, optical microscopy, and sample preparation). Typical assignments also include the development of standard procedures for using equipment and processes in cooperation with scientific staff and suppliers of lab equipment and processes. Other assignments include:
- training of staff and students in using the equipment and processes.
- conduct good laboratory practices (quality and safety).
- perform structural analysis and materials characterization as part of research projects incl experimental planning, set-up, data collection, data analysis and reporting of results.
- perform materials characterization as a service for external partners.
You will also participate in external networks for the development of methods to ensure that our laboratory facilities are used to their highest potential.
Qualifications
We are looking for you who have a Master or PhD degree in materials science/engineering, chemical engineering or equivalent. You have experience in materials characterization, preferably metals and polymers.
We expect applicants for this position to:
- be handy with tools and instruments, systematic and structured
- have good knowledge of the fundamentals of optical and electron microscopy
- have demonstrated skills to work efficiently, conscientiously and professionally both independently and in a team environment.
- have good oral and written skills in English
To succeed and thrive in the role, we see it as necessary that you are a driven and service-minded team player with good time management skills, structured and responsible. It is also important to have good communication and collaboration skills when working together with students, staff and faculty.
Furthermore, it is considered meritorious if you have previous hands-on experience in:
- materials characterization, especially scanning electron microscopy and focused ion beam (FIB-SEM)
- analytical microscopy; i.g. EDS, WDS, EBSD, etc.
- sample preparation for high-quality microscopy
Information
The position is until further notice (starts with a probationary period of 6 months), 100% starting 2024-08-01 or by agreement. Working hours in confidence. Work conditions and individual salary setting according to collective agreement.
