Your role and responsibilities
Are you ready to help automate the world's ports and shape the future of global trade? ABB Ports is looking for a creative and driven R&D Software Engineer to join our Automation & Control team. Together, we develop the standard platform spanning both software and hardware that powers the automation of Ship-to-Shore cranes and Automated Stacking Cranes used in major terminals worldwide.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of ABB's automation and control standard platform built on the AC500 PLC platform.
Design, implement, and enhance automation and control functionalities by transforming requirements into reliable, efficient solutions.
Support global delivery projects in applying the standard platform and related tools consistently and effectively.
Improve and refine testing and verification methods to ensure high-quality, robust automation software.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional R&D teams to ensure the platform evolves in line with operational needs and industry expectations.
Your background
Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
Several years of experience in software development for industrial automation (IEC 61131-3 Structured Text, Python, C/C++, Linux).
Experience with ABB AC500 and the Codesys/Automation Builder environment is highly valuable.
Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
Knowledge of functional safety and/or cybersecurity is considered a merit.
Strong communication skills and fluency in English, both spoken and written.
A self-driven mindset, a passion for problem-solving, and an interest in building robust, scalable technical solutions.
