We are now looking to hire an Associate Principal Scientist/Senior Scientist to our team in Gothenburg, Sweden.
As Associate Principal Scientist/Senior Scientist within the Personalised Healthcare and Biomarkers (PHB) function you will be accountable for the delivery of Immuno-based diagnostic tests that align with the drug development process enabling personalised healthcare approaches for our drug portfolio. The Personalised Healthcare and Biomarkers (PHB) function delivers companion diagnostics and biomarkers to AstraZeneca drug products, targeting life-changing medicines to those most likely to benefit.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
As Associate Principal Scientist/Senior Scientist you will work with internal and external partners in a global, multi-disciplinary environment to identify appropriate testing platforms and assay development strategies, and subsequently design and lead / execute scientific experiments to deliver validated complimentary & companion diagnostics. A key objective will be to establish the diagnostic test in lab testing networks to enable its delivery in a clinical study setting. Quality controlling data from ongoing clinical studies will also be a key.
You will have a strong strategic and tactical understanding of how diagnostics align to pharmaceutical drug development. You will also be accountable for ensuring that all activities are timely delivered demonstrating behaviors and values aligned to AstraZeneca Code of Conduct and supporting policies, standards and procedures, including compliant management of Budget, Safety, Health and Environment.
Essential requirements
• A PhD or equivalent in immunology, biochemistry, molecular pathology or a related discipline with relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries
• Experience of the drug discovery and development process in the pharmaceutical industry
• Project management experience in the development and validation of novel screening technologies, and the design and execution of experiments
• An understanding of drug diagnostic co-development and commercialisation segmentation tool discovery and diagnostic analytical validation
• Experience with soluble biomarker assays, such as immunoassay, enzymatic activity assays including troubleshooting and QC
• Experience of the latest advances in soluble biomarker assays and diagnostic tests including biomarker multiplexing
• Exposure to working within a technically regulated environment
• A proven record of influencing and collaborating with external partners
• A record of excellence in PHB, demonstrated by publications, patents and the delivery of biomarkers and patient segmentation tools.
Desirable requirements
• Has worked within a diagnostic quality system environment (Design Control)
• Detailed knowledge of EU and US diagnostic regulations (510(k), PMA, CE marking)
• Working knowledge of clinical laboratory quality systems including: Good Clinical Practice and CLIA
• Knowledge of clinical test platforms
• Awareness of reimbursement strategies for diagnostic tests
• Outsourcing of laboratory assays, biomarker development experience.
