Work place
You will be employed at the Department of Culture, Languages and Media (KSM) and work with the Language Editing Group at Malmö University (LEG).
Responsibilities
• Perform 2-3 rounds of structural editing of research texts in English across various academic disciplines. This includes editing and proofreading in track changes in Word.
• Perform editing according to different style manuals used in various academic publications.
The editor will be responsible for ensuring:
• Copyediting, proofreading and restructuring and rewriting if required.
• Correct spelling and punctuation, and appropriate use of words with correct grammar and syntax.
• Elimination of repetition and inconsistencies.
• Consistent style and format throughout the document. Consistent font(s) as relevant to headings and text.
• Appropriate use of italicized and bolded words.
• Correct use of English while maintaining the authors' writing style to the extent feasible.
• Ensure footnotes, sources and references are complete and consistent.
Qualifications
Specific requirements for this position:
• 3-5 years of professional editing/proofreading/publishing experience of research texts for international publication in English or closely-related experience.
• PC skills with excellent knowledge of MS Office is a must.
• Experience of communicating with non-native speakers of English with record of success in understanding intended meaning and nuance.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and be flexible.
• Outstanding command of both written and spoken English is a must.
• Bachelor's degree in English studies.
Of particular merit for this position:
• Master's Degree (preferably in communication studies or related field).
