hela Sverige The Machine Directorate at the European Spallation Source (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for a Power Electronics Engineer position in the Accelerator Division.
Description of main responsibilities
As a Power Electronics Engineer your main responsibilities will be:
• To lead the production follow-up, installation, testing, commissioning and later operation of the power converters needed to supply the accelerator magnets;
• Contribute to the construction follow-up, installation, testing and operation of the tetrode based RF power stations for the spoke Linac.
The work related to this position will include activities such as follow up of industrial contracts, supervision of factory acceptance tests at the constructor premises, set up of test benches at ESS, develop and execute test and measure procedures, write documentation, troubleshooting, etc.
Qualifications
To be successful in this position you shall have a master's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent and at least five years of professional experience in the field of Power Electronics. At least three of the following competences / skills shall be demonstrated:
• Designing of switch mode power converters in the power range of 1kW to 10kW;
• Testing, troubleshooting of modern switch mode power supplies for industrial or physics applications;
• Design of rack layouts for installation of 3U to 6U power supply crates (electrical schematics, BOM, simplified mechanical layout drawings in 2D);
• Follow up of contracts for the procurement of power supplies;
• Writing testing reports or documentation for servicing and operation of power supplies;
• Operation of power supplies in large industrial or physics facilities;
• Designing, testing or operation of High Voltage power supplies (>10kV);
• Design, contract follow-up, testing or operation of RF power stations (>20kW);
Experience of project management within the technical fields mentioned above, particularly if developed within the scope of large physics projects, would be a strong advantage.
The following specific knowledge and competences are also desirable for this position:
• Knowledge of basic power electronic structures like AC/DC, DC/DC and DC/AC switch mode converters;
• Dimensioning of power electronic sub-systems (power stacks, passive filters, etc.) and specification of their main components like:- transformers, inductors, capacitors, EMC filters, current and voltage sensors, etc;
• Simulation of power converter systems using software tools like Matlab/Simulink, PSPICE, Saber, Simplorer, etc;
• Knowledge of control techniques applied to power electronics;
•
Strong communication, team work and collaboration skills are a must. Your English skills are excellent both spoken and written.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
