Translational brain tumor research
Subject area description
In the research team, we work with brain tumors from adults and children with the long-term goal of finding more effective treatments with fewer side-effects. We focus on cancer stem cells that we isolate from patients with brain tumors.
Job assignments
Within the project you will be working with both experimental models and clinical samples. The project combines cell biology, genetic, epigenetic and molecular biology methods.
As a postdoc you will conduct research within the project, summarize the results in publications and present research data at conferences.
Eligibility
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at the University of Gothenburg. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Assessment
We are looking for an ambitious and driven person with a PhD in a relevant subject who has a strong research background. Highly meritorious is a documented knowledge in stem cell biology/tumor biology, practical experience in the cultivation of stem cells and cancer stem cell assays, experience in in vitro expansion of primary cells and cell lines. We also require that you are able to work independently within agreed limits and possess excellent communication skills, written and verbally. Desirable experience includes knowledge of large-scale genetic and epigenetic experimental methods (such as RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, methylation arrays) and analysis of generated data.
