hela Sverige Department of Biomedicine and Veterinary Public Health, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, is looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the field of toxicology for a 2 year fixed term position.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will work in the fields of molecular toxicology and food toxicology with research questions relating to combination effects that can occur when humans are exposed to multiple chemicals simultaneously. The research will be conducted by using in vitro methods based on cultured cells, which have been modified to respond to toxic compounds that activate specific toxicity pathways. Further, data from human epidemiological studies will be used.
Tasks: Research in the fields of molecular toxicology and food toxicology, with a special focus on the evaluation of combination effects/mixture effects. The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct research focusing on a) potential combination effects of known environmental pollutants where an exposure route via food or drinking water can be expected and b) potential combination effects of environmental pollutants (known and unknowns) in the aquatic environment. Comparisons will be performed between observed toxicity for complex mixtures and the observed toxicity for the single chemicals that the mixture consists of, to evaluate if combination effects occur. Toxicological databases will also be used to calculate a predicted toxicity of a chemical mixture, which then will be compared with the toxicity that can be observed in in vitro assays.
The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to conduct research in this scientific field in close collaboration with the other researchers at the department. The Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to take a leading role in the design and execution of the laboratory work, to publish scientific papers, and to participate in the supervision of master students and PhD students.

https://www.slu.se/en/departments/biomedical-sciences-veterinary-public-health/research/toxikology/Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in a subject field of relevance for this research area, e.g. molecular biology, biochemistry, toxicology, or pharmacology. The Ph.D. degree should have been obtained within a maximum of three years before the final application date. Previous research experience in the field of toxicology and combination effects/mixture effects using in vitro methods is highly meritorious, as well as previous experience of modelling of combination effects and "relative potency factors"/"toxic equivalent factors" (TEF) for toxic substances.
The applicant must be sufficiently fluent in English to understand, discuss and communicate science on a high level. The assessment of applications will be based primarily on the applicant's ability to conduct independent research of high scientific quality, the applicant 's collaborative skills and problem-solving capacity, as well as the candidate 's personal letter and stated reasons for applying for the position.
