The Institute of Biomedicine has a broad and extensive involvement in both research and education. In both of these areas, our focus is with fundamental knowledge of the living cell - what it consists of, how it works, how its function is directed by the genetic material, and how it interacts with various kinds of micro-organisms. Using this knowledge, we try to elucidate the causes of diseases, and find new ways to diagnose and treat them.
Our extensive education assignment comprises teaching at the medicine, pharmacy, dentistry and laboratory technology programmes.
Subject area
Modelling osteoarthritis with human induced pluripotent stem (IPS) cells.
Subject area description
The research theme of the laboratory is on investigating cellular and molecular basis of cartilage development and pathogenesis of cartilage diseases utilizing human pluripotent stem cells. We focus on (i) establishing patient-derived and disease-specific human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs); (ii) creating hiPSC-based in vitro mesenchymal organoid to study pathogenesis of cartilage diseases with focus on osteoarthritis (OA)
Job assignments
We are seeking to recruit a postdoc with particularly outstanding scientific merits and future potential. The successful candidates will primarily work with cellular reprogramming of human iIPS cells with the aim to establish transgene cell-lines for screening of disease genes and cell tracing. The cell culture models will involve advanced cell culture methods including organoid cultures and 3D printing in matrices.
Eligibility
An achieved doctoral degree is compulsory for a position as postdoctor at the University of Gothenburg. The doctoral thesis shall be in a relevant area according to the specific position stated here. Since a position as postdoctor aims to give new holders of the doctorate the opportunity mainly to strengthen and develop their scholarly proficiency, we aim for those who have a doctoral degree not older than 3 years counting from last date of application.
The qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
Assessment
Methods used require knowledge in the biochemistry of cartilage tissue, cell biology, molecular biology, histology and cell culture systems. Major experience of cell and stem cell culture is considered an important merit as well as knowledge in advanced microscopy including confocal microscopy and time-lapse imaging. Knowledge of organ models and experience in using nude mice for tissue analyzes in vivo is a plus.
Regulations for the evaluation of qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance.
