Location: Institute of Clinical Sciences, Göteborg
First day of employment: Autumn 2013
Reference number: PER 2013/274
Subject area
Health Economics
Specific subject description
This postdoc position is devoted to health-economics research on outcomes in surgery, in the Department of Surgery, Institute of Clinical Sciences, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg. The position is mainly financed (80%) by the Scandinavian Surgical Outcomes Research Group (SSORG) and the health-economics researcher will work with fellow researchers within the SSORG network and with SSORG data. Within the SSORG network, a number of new surgical interventions are evaluated against established practice, and the research portfolio also includes several large registry based studies. SSORG has received substantial financial support from the Swedish Research Council. Twenty percent of the time the appointee will work with teaching and/or administrative duties within the network of CHEGU, a multidisciplinary centre without fixed boundaries established in October 2011.
Job assignments
The position includes 80 percent research and 20 percent teaching and/or administrative duties. The appointee shall conduct his or her own health-economics research in collaboration with SSORG researchers. Main focus will be on empirical studies, but developments of theory and/or methods will also be encouraged. In addition, the postdoctoral researcher is expected to participate in seminar activities at SSORG and CHEGU and regularly present his or her research at international conferences. Teaching will be in departments associated with CHEGU and/or SSORG. The content of teaching and administrative duties will be discussed and agreed upon with the head of the Department of Clinical Sciences.
Eligibility
To qualify as a postdoc you need to have a PhD degree in the relevant subject. Since postdoctoral constitutes a qualifying appointment for junior researchers, we aim to target those who have a doctoral degree that is not older than 3 years from deadline of the application.
Assessment
Applications will be assessed by SSORG and CHEGU. In assessing candidates, particular emphasis will be given to scientific proficiency. The appointee will have an advanced expertise in micro-economic theory and in micro-econometrics. Experiences of empirical analyses on large-scale individual-data sets, published in international peer-reviewed journals is an advantage. Publications related to theory, method and/or practice of economic evaluation is another advantage as is knowledge and experience of modeling techniques. The position requires a close collaboration with other disciplines; documented experience of multi- or interdisciplinary collaboration is therefore a merit. Previous health-related research is an advantage but not a necessary requirement. The appointee should focus on a future career as a health-economics researcher.
