It is challenging to understand how different cellular components interact to regulate cell metabolism. This Postdoc project will focus on quantitative systems biological approaches together with genome scale metabolic models to study yeast metabolism and regulatory networks.

Information about the division and the department
The project is funded by Novo Nordisk Foundation and basic research will be carried out to gain deeper understanding on how oxygen utilization is regulated in yeast and how it can be used in industrial biotechnology.
The Division of Systems and Synthetic Biology at the Chalmers University of Technology is one of the world leading research groups in systems biology of metabolism. Our research interests involve a wide range of activities from understanding the fundamental operational principles of metabolism and studies of metabolic diseases, to highly applied research directed towards development of novel cell factories for the production of valuable chemicals.

Major responsibilities
Your major responsibilities are to carry out independent research in a critical and effective manner, to organise and manage data to a high standard, to regularly communicate results to your colleagues, and to disseminate you main conclusions to the scientific community in the form of meetings, conferences and peer-reviewed articles. You should be able to apply critical and creative thinking on a regular basis.

Equally, you should be able to adopt an open-minded approach to work that allows integration of constructive feedback as well as the possibility of adapting your research direction based on new results. In addition, you should be proactive, capable of keeping up with the evolving technologies available and motivated to test and implement new protocols. You will be expected to share in the responsibilities for keeping the lab and equipment in good condition.

Qualifications
To quantify for the position of postdoc, you should have a PhD degree, generally should it not be older than three years, in biotechnology/biological engineering or within a relevant field, with a strong background in yeast genetics and physiology.

You should be comfortable working with Saccharomyces cerevisiae. You should have strong knowledge on yeast metabolism, solid experience on genetic manipulation with CRISPR/Cas9 in S. cerevisiae, and microbial cultivation in benchtop bioreactors. Previous experience with advanced analytics such as LC-MS is an advantage, and skills with omics data analysis is a plus. You should have excellent team work and social abilities. The candidate must also be highly proficient in spoken and written English.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years.
