About the position
Novel genetic and genomic tools are indispensable for plant breeding. The Swedish apple breeding program is currently being converted from the phenotype-based to genome-informed to make it more precise and cost-efficient. The overall objective of this position is to carry out research that will contribute to the development and application of -omics tools within the Swedish apple breeding program. Analyses of phenotypic data for various traits along with high-density marker and sequence data will be important components for the candidate on this position. The post-doc will be involved in several on-going projects but is also expected to lead plant breeding-related projects with the focus on flowering, disease resistance, climate adaptation etc. The post-doc is expected to write own grant applications and developing ideas and funding for new projects within the group. The post-doc will work together with researchers and plant breeder in ongoing projects and in additional upcoming projects in related areas.

Furthermore, the candidate should have good knowledge and practical skills in genetic data analysis (both, marker data and sequence data) and plant pathology. A successful candidate should have a sound understanding of multidisciplinary research in relation to plant breeding of apples, have experience of collaboration with plant breeders, growers as well as experience of international collaboration. The candidate should be able to work well independently as well as to collaborate in group and have good overall communication skills, including the ability to communicate and write well in English.
