Our skin has remarkable ability to self-heal, something most of us almost take for granted. Old age and certain diseases can drastically reduce this ability, greatly increasing the risk of suffering from a chronic wound. One way to enforce faster closure of the epithelial layer is to use electrical stimulation, a concept our team has developed over a number of years. We are currently developing this technology for translation to an active wound dressing to be used in patients. For this we are looking for a post doc to share this journey with us, drive development of the technology concept and take the first steps towards pre-clinical tests of a prototype device.

Project description
Within bioelectronic microtechnology we engineer devices such as microsensors that can link external systems directly to the body's own electrical signals, or wearable patches that interact with the skin. We develop process technology to build these systems, bench test environments to validate that the systems work, and biological tests such as cell cultures where we use the systems to stimulate specific behavior in cells and to monitor their response.

Major responsibilities
As postdoc in our group you will take on responsibility for the experimental work towards a prototype device for bioelectronic wound healing. You will work with a combination of bench test environments, numerical and biological models to shape the concept into a device that is compatible with use on skin wounds. Part of the work will also be to explore how regulatory processes for medical devices can be combined with personalisation of a concept, to make the treatment as efficient as possible.

The position may also include teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must hold a doctoral degree awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline (according to the current agreement with the Swedish Agency for Government Employers).
You should:
• Have the ability to work independently and with dedication towards the project research goals
• Have experience of bioelectronics, specifically electrodes and manufacturing for bioelectronic systems

It is also desirable if you have worked with biological tests e.g. cell culture at some point in your research. Since we are preparing a possible transfer of our technology to a spin-off, it is important that you as a candidate have an interest in being part of such a process.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. Swedish is not a requirement but Chalmers offers Swedish courses. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.

Contract terms
This postdoc position is a full-time temporary employment for two years with the possibility of a one-year extension.
