We are looking for a postdoc to join a project on carbon capture and utilization (CCU) at Chalmers. In this role, you will focus on developing catalysts and carrying out detailed characterization experiments that can support the future production of electrofuels and electrochemicals. You will be part of a collaborative research environment where advanced characterization techniques are combined with high pressure experiments.

Research environment

The position is placed jointly at the Division of Chemical Engineering and the Division of Microstructure Physics. Both divisions have broad experience and work across experimental and theoretical approaches. We combine fundamental scientific studies with applied research, often in collaboration with industrial partners.

The project is part of the Competence Centre for Catalysis (KCK) and the Chalmers Area of Advance Energy, which provide strong networks and resources for your research.

Project overview

The project aims to explore new catalytic processes for CO2 hydrogenation as part of CCU. The objective of the project is to develop novel catalysts for the process that will be examined in high pressure CO2 hydrogenation experiments, combined with detailed catalyst characterization where APT (atom probe tomography) is a key technique.

The catalyst will be tested in high hydrogen pressure reactors and the gas will be analysed with GC. A central part of the work will be detailed catalyst characterization. A wide range of methods will be used, including XRD, BET, SEM, TEM, TPR, TPD, DRIFT, and XPS. Atom Probe Tomography (APT), with sample preparation using FIB, will be a key technique and an important area of focus for the project.

The position will involve reporting current research results in both written and oral form as well as authoring scientific research publications.

Your profile

Required qualifications

• PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Catalysis, Materials Science or equivalent (awarded no more than three years prior to the application deadline*)
• Strong written and spoken communication skills in English

Merits

• Experience in high-pressure hydrogenation experiments
• Experience in Atom Probe Tomography (APT)

*The date on your doctoral degree certificate is considered the official date of completion. Exceptions to the three-year eligibility limit may be made for documented circumstances such as parental leave, sick leave, or military service.

Contract terms

The position is a temporary full-time employment for two years.

Please note that the position requires physical presence throughout the entire employment. A valid residence permit must be presented by the start date, otherwise the offer may be withdrawn.
