Tourism Studies have been part of the Linnaeus University and the former Kalmar University College since 1978, and is the oldest institution in Sweden offering courses and degrees in Tourism. The tourism research group today consists of seven faculty including one postdoc position. The group aims to strengthen its research capacity over the coming years. Current research is conducted in an array of subject fields within tourism studies including hospitality, events, planning, passenger transport and community studies, from sustainability perspectives. The tourism research group is strategically focusing on sustainability research, and more broadly contextualised in the new climate regime and the 2015 Paris Accord on climate change, an area in which the group has international standing. The group also maintains ties to the world's leading research environments in this field.

Tourism research at Linnaeus University is interdisciplinary with its base in Tourism Studies, but strongly influenced by business studies, human geography and sociology. We welcome strong applicants with documented interest in line with the tourism research group's focus area, who meet the formal requirements and who have a background related to the above mentioned disciplines.

The tourism research group is physically based in Kalmar, a historical city with a population of 67,000. Kalmar is characterized by a vibrant student life as well as its proximity to Öland, Sweden's most popular holiday destination.
