A post-doc position is available at the Section of Parasitology, Department of Biomedical Sciences and Veterinary Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden. The main focus of the research at our section is to study aspects of the sustainable control of parasitic diseases in grazing livestock and issues related to anthelmintic resistance.
Our main interest is to develop a next generation sequencing (NGS) based protocol for species delineation of nematode communities in samples (larval cultures) composed of multiple species contained in different genera. Development of such a research tool is essential to investigate the dynamic alterations in parasite community structures in relation to different deworming strategies. The same technique can also be applied to study nematode community structure in areas with differing levels of interaction between domestic livestock and wildlife ruminants, but also in relation to animal trade resulting in animal movement between regions and different farms. Currently the section consists of one professor, two senior researchers, one laboratory technician, four PhD students, guest researchers and several MSc students.

The selected candidate will also be responsible for her/his own research project/s. This includes all aspects from planning, experimental design, performing experiments and analysis of data to publishing the findings. The topic of this research will be discussed and depend on the background/qualifications of the applicant. To write applications for further financing is also part of duties within this position.

Kvalifikationer: A PhD in biosciences, preferably with previous experience in animal population biology preferably with focus on parasitic infections. Must be highly experienced in practical laboratory work and skilful in analysis of population genetics, whereas prior experience in working with annotations and metagenomic analysis are valuable. The applicant should have a good ability to work in a team, ability to work independently and personal qualities are also of high importance.
