Post-Doctoral position in Forest Policy
SLU is an international university, world class in live and environmental sciences. We are ranked among the Top 100 of ca 5,000 European universities. We have a strong research focus, but we also offer some of Sweden's most in-demand educations; veterinarian, forester, and landscape architect.
SLU has close to 3,000 employees and some 5,000 students. Annual turnover is SEK 2.7 billion, and activities are concentrated to the main campuses in Uppsala, Alnarp, Umeå and Skara.
www.slu.se SLU Forest Faculty's Department of Forest Products is situated at the Ultuna campus i Uppsala. The Department's activities include research and consultation. Research spans a broad range of topics in six competence areas.
Duties: The role of forests and forestry has changed in the last decades. Forests are no longer seen simply as a source for timber supply, but rather as ecosystems that sustain livelihoods and provide a range of products and environmental services. Additionally challenges like market globalization and global environmental problems encounter forests and demand new requirements for sustainable forest management. The resulting tensions at the different political levels need to be regulated by forest policy processes. The shift from governmental regulation towards participative and deliberative governance mechanism in forest policy can be regarded as the answer to e.g. the globalization of the wood market, the entering and demands of new actors, and the shift towards institutionalized forest policy making beyond the nation state.
We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher supporting our team working on inter- and transnational forest policy processes. The applicant will develop and conduct theoretical and empirical research on conflicts of transnational forest policy processes and its democratic-ethical consequences.
Qualifications: The applicant should have a PhD degree in the area of forest policy with documented experiences in at least two of the following research areas: 1) transnational/international forest policy, 2) forest policy conflicts, 3) theoretical concepts on democracy and ethics. It is expected that the applicant has shown the ability to publish in international peer reviewed journals. For this reason the applicant should have excellent skills in the English language. It is assumed that the applicant is contributing to research proposals. The opportunity for teaching on international forest policy in given.
Form of employment: Funding is initially for a one-year post-doctoral position according to current SLU guidelines.
Starting date will be february 2011.
SLU is an equal opportunity employer.
