The current refugee situation is a moving target of rapidly changing patterns, consequences and societal reactions which beg scientific analysis and explanation. It constitutes the largest displacement of people on European soil since the Second World War. As such it will have profound and lasting social, political and economic implications in both Europe and the countries of origin. Malmö University has from an early stage been engaged in raising awareness and disseminating knowledge through the project Malmö University for refugees. As an additional step of this humanitarian and academic commitment the university hereby announces at least five two-year post doctorate positions in research on refugee migration to Europe. The positions are further subdivided into several thematic orientations: Refugee migration, media and communication, Refugee migration and governance, Refugee migration and care science, Refugee migration and criminology, and Refugee migration and social work (see further below).
General information about Malmö University
Founded in 1998, Malmö University has rapidly grown to become the ninth largest institution of higher education in Sweden with over 24 000 students. Malmö University aims to be an active hub for research, education and innovation that benefits a global society. The activities of Malmö University are centred on the major challenges in society today and we strive to be a university open to the world around us. Hence, our research is often multidisciplinary and is frequently pursued in collaboration with partners from outside the university.
Our campus is located at the heart of the city of Malmö, the third largest city in Sweden. Since its foundation, the university has played an important role in the transformation of Malmö from an industrial city to a centre of learning. About a third of our first year students have an international background, which is reflected in an increasingly international academic setting.
Malmö University offers students a range of undergraduate and graduate programmes in five faculties: Culture and Society, Education and Society, Health and Society, Odontology, and Technology and Society.
Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare
The post doctorate program of refugee research will be coordinated by the Malmö Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare (MIM). MIM is a university-wide and internationally recognized center for interdisciplinary research on migration and related areas. The Post Doctoral Positions are subdivided into the following thematic orientations: Refugee migration, media and communication, Refugee migration and governance, Refugee migration and Care Science, Refugee migration and Criminology and Refugee migration and Social work.
