in Environmental Communication
SLU develops the understanding and sustainable use of biological natural resources. This is achieved through research, teaching, environmental monitoring and assessment and information extension.
SLU has 3 000 employees, 4 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Main campuses are located at Alnarp, Skara, Uppsala and Umeå.
www.slu.sewww.vbsg.slu.seA post doctoral position is available in the Unit of Environmental Communication at the Department of Urban and Rural Development.
As an academic subject at SLU we see Environmental Communication as concerned with natural resource management contexts and the issues arising from a collision of demands and perspectives held by production and conservation interests. It aims to study social interaction of different forms, e.g.conflict, learning, negotiation and power concerning natural resource management. The new appointment is aimed at strengthening our understanding of how this is carried out as co-constructed actions at the interpersonal level. We seek to consolidate present research in the unit and focus on building theory and practice of environmental communication as an emerging field in Sweden and beyond.
The post-doctoral project will focus on social interaction and how language is used in institutional talk in situations relevant for natural resource management, such as agricultural extension, surveillance and nature conservation and resource management, particularly in different kinds of advisory encounters or in facilitated meetings. Studies of current Swedish agricultural and environmental discourse are also an encouraged area of scrutiny. The appointee will contribute to teaching in the Unit and help to strengthen and broaden the Unit’s methodological competences in this direction e.g. by applying conversation analysis (CA), discourse analysis, and other qualitative methods.
Qualifications: The applicant should have completed a Ph D dissertation in Environmental Communicaion or in a related area of specialisation within the last five years. Knowledge of Swedish will be seen as an advantage. It is important that the applicant has good skills in cooperation and networking as well as the capacity to take initiatives of her/his own and manage the work in a self-directed way.
The position is for full time appointment for two years. The starting date is as soon is possible.
SLU is an equal opportunity employer.
