Department of Forest Biomaterials and Technology
Do you want to develop the future's business models for forest services?

Forestry service contractors play a significant role in the sustainable use of our forests. In Nordic forestry, the majority of forest management activities are executed by independent contractors, who are engaged by larger customer companies. The forestry service sector is well established in the Nordics, but there is large potential for further growth within the sector following the rising bioeconomy. New products, new technology and widened demands for forestry services will require development of both existing services as well as of new services, and require new competencies. Other challenges are those related to business activities in rural areas, with long distances to customers and possibilities for education and training. Altogether, the challenges require adaptations of existing business models, as well as development of new ones.

These challenges will be addressed in the postdoc project is connected to the Interreg project FOBIA (https://www.luke.fi/fobia/sv/) and to SLU's research school Bioeconomy-adapted forest management, with its forestry part FIRST2 (http://www.slu.se/first). This means that you will have access to a world wide contact network, with possibilities to participate in both national and international activities.

The department of Forest Biomaterials and Technology (SBT) (www.slu.se/sbt) has about 40 employees. SBT carries out high quality research, undergraduate and postgraduate education on an international level and collaborates with society and industry to develop a bio-based economy in which forest biomaterials becomes very important. SBT's focus is on forest value chains in the bio-based industry, where different forest biomaterials are harvester and processed for different purposes, while forest ecosystem services are managed sustainably.
