hela Sverige The Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF) is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Solar System Physics and Space Technology (SSPT) program at IRF, Kiruna, to advance our knowledge on the Earth's nearest celestial neighbor, the Moon.
The Ph.D. project will focus on the analysis of data collected by space instruments SSPT built for several lunar missions to understand how lunar magnetic anomalies interact with the solar wind. The data analysis will be combined with numerical simulations. Some laboratory work may be also required.
Candidates are expected to complete their MSc degree or equivalent and have demonstrated knowledge of space-related hardware, particularly for particle measurements in space. Proficiency in using the Python programming language for data processing, analysis, and numerical simulation is required. Interdisciplinary thinking and good presentation skills are strong merits. Demonstrated strong interest in planetary science and studies of the Moon is also a merit.
The position is available at the head office of the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF), located in Kiruna, Sweden (3 years), and at the Umeå University (1 year) for a total duration of four years.
The Ph.D. student will be affiliated with the Department of Physics at Umeå University and must fulfill the university requirements. Information about the research education is available at
