Position description
The PhD position is part of a funded research project focused on resilient and robust microgrid systems. Microgrids offer significant potential for advancing sustainability; however, their integration also introduces critical challenges in ensuring robust cybersecurity. As these decentralized energy systems rely on advanced technologies and interconnected networks, they become increasingly vulnerable to cybersecurity threats, which can undermine their resilience and reliability. This project aims to address these challenges by emphasizing the importance of secure and dependable microgrid systems.
The PhD student will undertake the following major tasks:
• Conduct a systematic literature review of existing solutions for network intrusion detection systems (NIDS)
• Apply advanced Deep models for improving current NIDS solutions
• Develop/utilize a digital twin for microgrid use case of the project
• Integrate generative models within the NIDS solution on the digital twin for validation
Additionally, the PhD student will likely spend 20% of their time teaching and 80% on research.
Qualifications
For basic eligibility, the following is required:
• A degree at an advanced level.
• At least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 are at an advanced level.
• Equivalent knowledge acquired in Sweden or abroad through other means.
Specific eligibility requirements include having the following:
• a master's level degree i Computer Science.
• Students with equivalent knowledge can also be admitted
Assessment criteria
Prior to employment, consideration must be given to the ability to assimilate third-cycle courses and study programmes at a higher education. We are looking for a student with a background in electrical engineering, computer systems, or related disciplines. We will use the following assessment criteria:
• Strong background in Computer Science
• Good knowledge of machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms
• Good knowledge of computer networking
• Understanding of intrusion detection systems and network security
• Strong programming skill (e.g. Python, C/C++, etc)
• Sufficient proficiency in oral and written English
In an overall assessment of suitability, emphasis is also placed on personal abilities.
