PhD student in Applied Physics
formally based at the division of Molecular Physics, Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology (IFM)
Duties
To develop and use methods for Raman spectroscopy for investigation of organic materials in thin films and at interfaces, including both biological materials and synthetic polymers. This involves spectroscopic and physico-chemical studies of surfaces, and studies of structure and chemical changes in these. Special emphasis will be placed on Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) based on nanoparticle systems. At the division, many projects build on cross-disciplinary activities, and the work will be carried out within the framework of existing national and international collaborations.
As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.
Qualifications
The applicant shall have degree that qualifies for graduate studies, for example an MSc degree or equivalent, in physics, materials science, chemistry, or engineering biology. Previous experience of vibrational spectroscopy, surface chemistry or work with metal nanoparticles would be favourable, but not necessary. Fluency in English is desired.
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.
Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years ' full time research training.
Starting date
March 1, 2019 or by agreement.
Salary
The salary for PhD students is based on the department's salary scale.
