We are looking for a talented, early-career physician to join our multidisciplinary research team. You will help advance the science of pharmacovigilance by exploring the risks and benefits of medicines.
Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is an independent non-profit foundation and centre for international service and scientific research. As the World Health Organization's (WHO) Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring, we seek to identify adverse effects of medicines based on real-world data - so-called safety signals. An important source of information are the over 20 million individual case reports of suspected adverse drug reactions in the WHO global database, VigiBase, which we maintain and analyse. These reports have been collected by more than 130 national pharmacovigilance centres across the world who are members of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring.
In UMC's Research section, we analyse risks and benefits of medicines in use. We do this on our own and in collaboration with experts around the world. We develop improved or new methods to analyse observational medical data to support wise therapeutic decision-making, in relation for example to drug interactions or risk factors for adverse drug reactions. Finally, we contribute to education and product development initiatives to support effective pharmacovigilance practices around the world.
What you will do
Contribute with medical knowledge and experience to scientific development and analysis for pharmacovigilance
Work closely with a passionate team of pharmacists, medical doctors and data scientists in multidisciplinary and interdependent teams
Contribute to the detection and assessment of possible safety signals
Support external domain experts in their assessment and evaluation of data from VigiBase
Write and edit texts communicating pharmacovigilance findings to a broader audience
Help continually develop and improve UMC processes for signal detection and assessment
Participate in the scientific development and evaluation of methods to analyse individual case reports, electronic health records, medical literature, and other data sources
Contribute to scientific papers and presentations of results
Contribute to training initiatives for the benefit of national pharmacovigilance centres across the world
Who you are
You are a physician with some clinical experience
You have strong analytical capability and interest
You have excellent English skills and enjoy scientific writing
You are innovative, driven and enjoy using data to better understand the world
You are generous and enjoy working with others to solve problems
It is an advantage if you have hands-on experience of pharmacovigilance, medical writing, medical terminologies, medical informatics, or data analysis
