The Department of Medicinal Chemistry in the RIA iMed unit at AstraZeneca, Gothenburg, Sweden is looking for a highly motivated, experimentally skilled, synthetic organic chemists to become a key member of our drug discovery team.

The arena
The successful applicant will join the Department of Medicinal Chemistry of the Respiratory, Inflammation & Autoimmunity iMed, that discover novel drug molecules aimed at treating conditions such as Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and autoimmune diseases. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and synthesis of small molecule ligands to advance the RIA project pipeline.
The role
This provides an exciting opportunity for a talented chemist with a PhD in Organic Chemistry to be part of our drug discovery team. The successful candidate should successfully adopt the collaborative and scientific spirit of AstraZeneca and be dedicated to our mission to bring new medicines to patients.
Minimum requirements
Applicants must have a PhD in Organic Chemistry, with an emphasis on organic synthesis. The position requires in-depth, up to date knowledge in the field of modern organic synthesis and preferably with Post-Doctoral experience from development of novel synthetic methodology or synthesis of complex molecules. In addition we expect, applicants to be self-motivated and driven by scientific curiosity.
Preferred experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven scientific proficiency in organic synthesis shown by a publication record in peer reviewed journals and presentations at scientific meetings. A strong team spirit and good interpersonal skills combined with an ability to effectively work in a team-based environment as well as the ability to mentor less experienced colleagues is highly valued.
