The Operational Excellence (OE) team within Global Medicines Development (GMD) Operations leads process improvement and transformation strategy for the GMD organization, owning and providing industry leading process, methodologies and services on behalf of GMD and its internal and external Partnerships.
The team is accountable for the delivery of GMD-wide OE activities delivering high profile organizational change via OE principles and methods to drive end-to-end continuous improvement of medicines development, which result in the realization of tangible, data-driven benefits.
Role
The Operational Excellence Partner is collectively responsible for setting the strategic direction of the GMD OE program, providing expert support and technical leadership to its global implementation. Accountable for ensuring the GMD OE improvement programme is delivered across a GMD hub location + region (EMEA/America/Asia). The role works in partnership with OE Value Chain Owners (GMD business subject matter experts) and functional business process owners, programme managers & improvement resources.
Accountable for ensuring appropriate application of OE/Lean/Six Sigma, Project Management and Process Management and Improvement tools and provides leadership in these areas by developing & leveraging continuous improvement capability across GMD in conjunction with OE colleagues. The role translates OE / Lean knowledge & experience into business opportunities that delivers quantified value and sustainable solutions. The job holder role models OE / Lean behaviors and encourages others to do so.
Responsibilities:
* Providing strategy, OE process expertise & tools to enable a flexible, sustainable process. You will implement across GMD & help others to be successful in their delivery by motivating, coaching & mentoring. Driving performance improvement by identifying & translating improvement opportunities into practical and implementable program plans, in a structured & consistent way that exploits OE tools & techniques to realize quantified value & deliver sustainable solutions, in a timely & efficient manner.
* You will define, evolve and execute the GMD OE strategy, culture, behavior and processes ensuring that these deliver sustainable benefit to GMD whilst maintaining alignment with AZ enterprise approaches (e.g. Simplification) & existing GMD improvement teams (e.g. Enablement). Visibly engage and champion 'OE' to ensure understanding, buy-in, and strong sponsorship across all functions.
* As the OE / Lean capability owner, develop & own improvement methodologies for GMD - e.g. lean basics, work load levelling (flow), kaizen, process mapping, value stream analysis, problem solving, standard ways of working, change management.
* You will communicate outcomes from the global OE programme to regional and local leadership, monitor and report progress of the hub / regional programs, facilitates the sharing and transfer of best practices across the hub / region. As well as actively collaborate with OE / Lean professionals across AZ and externally to gain awareness of current OE practices and influence new evolving practices.
Requirements
* Educated to degree level (or equivalent) with demonstrated industry experience of global OE / lean programmes
* Six Sigma Black Belt training and/or certification from an accredited external Quality program
* In depth knowledge of OE / lean best practice
* Significant process optimization & capability experience in a global setting.
* Significant application experience of Lean principles, processes, tools, behaviors & leadership
* Inspirational, engaging, leader with well-developed interpersonal, coaching, influencing & communications skills
* Experience of leading business change and continuous improvement programs with a proven track record of business benefit delivery
* Ability to train, coach & lead kaizen activities with energy, engagement & focus on results.
