hela Sverige The Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) group within the Environment, Safety & Health Division at the European Spallation Source ERIC (ESS) in Lund, Sweden, invites applications for an Occupational Health Safety (OHS) Engineer.
Description of directorate/division
The Environment, Safety & Health (ESH) Division, reporting to the Associate Director of ESH&Q supports, monitors and assures the implementation of ESS policies, rules, processes, objectives as well as best practices at all levels of the organization in ESH matters. Within the ESH division, the OHS group is responsible for issues and questions related to OHS aspects for design, installation and commissioning as well as the future operation of the facility. Presently, the ESH division consists of around forty persons and the division will expand its staff and activities the upcoming years in order to meet the needs of the organisation in line with the progress of ESS towards an operating user facility as of 2023.
Description of the position
Today, the OHS group consists of 5 employees and one consultant. The group is working both with the design of the future facility as well as with the installation of the ESS machine (accelerator and target). Within the group there are currently specialists in fire protection & control and electrical safety.
The position includes the following task and responsibilities:
• To act as an expert for handling chemicals and other hazardous materials (including cryogenic and biological material) within ESS.
• To support the Area Coordinators for the shared workplaces during installation and commissioning.
• Write required rules and guidelines for the ESS framework of OHS, including setting up of permits and training, especially for chemicals.
• To support the ESS line organisation providing occupational health and safety advice to meet legislative requirements and ensure best practice.
• To participate in the implementation of a healthy safety culture at ESS.
Qualifications
A good degree in a scientific discipline, expertise within a scientific environment and you have knowledge of the Swedish legislation regarding chemical management.
You have a well-developed ability to listen, consult others and to communicate proactively with a high level of integrity. Building wide and effective networks of contacts both inside and outside the organization comes naturally to you.

Duration & Location
The position is permanent with six months initial probationary period, the position is to be filled as soon as possible. Your work place will be situated in Lund, Sweden.
