Make the world a safer place
Would you like to help us make the world a safer place? Join an award-winning, multidisciplinary team committed to enabling safer use of medicines. We seek a medical doctor with a passion for patient safety and a strong belief in the capabilities of informatics as a means to achieve it. You will have a deep interest in research and would like to join us in our mission of exploring the benefits and risks of medicines, advancing the science of pharmacovigilance.
Uppsala Monitoring Centre is responsible for the technical and scientific operations of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring, an international initiative which focuses on enhancing patient care and safety in relation to the use of medicines, and supports public health programmes by providing reliable, balanced information for the effective assessment of the risk-benefit profile of medicinal drugs. We work with a range of major data sources, from VigiBase®, the WHO Programme's repository of ten million individual case reports from around the world, to electronic patient record systems, and social media. We lead and participate in international collaborative projects together with universities, health authorities, and industry. By joining the UMC, you will become part of a truly international organization with a global vision: safer patients.
Main responsibilities:
• Use your broad knowledge of both medicine and informatics to create, implement and evaluate new methods for analyzing observational medical data.
• Assess individual case safety reports and case series for causality, clinical relevance and risk potential.
• Work within the Research Section on identifying, evaluating, drafting, writing and editing of potential signals.
• Act as the medical expert in project teams.
• Actively contribute to training activities and scientific conferences in Sweden and abroad.

Competence requirements
We are looking for someone with:
• A degree in medicine (MD) with at least three years of post graduation clinical experience
• Knowledge or experience of needs assessment, conceptualization, development or evaluation of medical information systems.

It is beneficial if you also have:
• A degree in informatics (e.g. computer science or medical/health informatics).
• Experience of data analysis, evaluation and reporting of safety data.
• Experience of applying medical terminologies (e.g. WHO-ART, MedDRA, ICD and SNOMED).
• Experience of working in an international environment related to pharmacovigilance.
• Speaks another language in addition to English.

Personal profile
Our staff and stakeholders rely on your passion for science, technology and up-to-date knowledge in your area of expertise to develop the best possible solutions.
As a person we expect you to:
• Enjoy interacting with and training co-workers and other stakeholders within an international pharmacovigilance community.
• Be self driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook, and have a clear focus on high quality work.
• Be credible and comfortable in dealing with politically sensitive/multi-cultural situations.
• Adaptable - have the ability to cope with changes in internal or external demands.
The position is full-time and begins with a trial period of six months based at the UMC office in Uppsala. Our organisation's operational language is English and all applicants must be proficient in the use of English at work. International travel is part of the work.
