UMC has 85 employees in its offices in Uppsala, Sweden.
Aim of position
To act as the final opinion on all medical matters in the UMC and to advise WHO on medical matters relating to pharmacovigilance
o To act as the senior medical advisor to the Pharmacovigilance team and overseeing the medical development and strategy in pharmacovigilance in order to be abreast of, or leading, current medical practices, but delegating responsibilities to the medical officer in PV
o This will be done in coordination with the Department Head, Pharmacovigilance services
o To act as the senior advisor to the Research team to ensure that research is directed towards improving health care in relation to therapeutics and patient safety, but delegating responsibilities to the medical officer in research
o This will be done in coordination with the Department Head, Research
o To advise other areas of the UMC on medical matters relating to their work
o To be involved in the short and long term planning of the UMC
o To advise WHO HQ on medical matters on request, and particularly the WHO Programme
o To advise other areas of WHO on medical issues of pharmacovigilance, coordinating with HQ staff in pharmacovigilance (QSM)
o Advising any national centre on pharmacovigilance as required, but with due regard to the priorities of the UMC
o To be the final arbiter and voice for medical communications with all stakeholders including the medical and general media, or to delegate to responsible staff according to circumstances
Education/Experience profile
Basic degree in Medicine (Bachelor or corresponding)
Postgraduate specialist training
Postgraduate degree in Medicine (MD or corresponding)
Experience Level
Recognised as an international expert in pharmacovigilance
Registered MD with at least 5 years post graduate clinical experience
Extensive experience in data analysis, evaluation of safety data and the preparation of safety reports and publications
Expert knowledge of pharmaceutical medicine, including pharmacovigilance and vaccine safety
Expert knowledge of international regulatory requirements in pharmacovigilance
Extensive experience with ICSR reporting and signal analysis
Extensive experience in Medical Reviewing
3+ years experience of scientific research and publication
Experience in application of pharmacoepidemiological methodology
Swedish-fluent written and oral is a plus
English-fluent written and oral
At least one of the official WHO languages (French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese (Mandarin), Arabic)
