The energy sector is undergoing revolutionary change. The transformation to become fossil free within one generation has begun with digitalization, electrification and flexibility as key enablers. Using innovative solutions, Vattenfall R&D has group-wide responsibility for conducting business driven technical development that supports the company's strategic focus areas. We are now looking for a manager for the section Energy Systems & Processes.
As section manager within R&D you will be a part of leading the transformation of Vattenfall towards becoming fossil free within one generation. You will be responsible for a highly qualified team that performs development projects with strategic value for Vattenfall's business, such as digitalized and optimized energy systems, electrification and decarbonization of industries and fossil free solutions for heat generation.

Responsibilities
As manager for the section Energy Systems & Processes you will be responsible for a team of 17 R&D Engineers that leads and executes R&D projects. Competence areas include energy system modelling and optimization (multi-family buildings as well as city areas), combustion of waste and biomass, processes for decarbonization of the industry (e.g. iron/steel), battery chemistry and applications. The team members are located in Solna and Älvkarleby.
You will have the following key responsibilities:
• Ensuring high quality execution and delivery of R&D results in projects and assignments which are performed by agile teams. The projects are initiated in the R&D portfolio management process
• Staffing of agile teams and providing support and guidance throughout the project execution
• Strategic development of competences in line with the needs of the Business Areas and the strategy of Vattenfall
• Strategy for when to use consultants and when to build internal competences. Ordering of consultants
• Drive development in selected technical areas
• Be part of a manager team of section managers and portfolio managers reporting to Director of Customer Focused R&D within Staff Function R&D/Strategic Development
Qualifications
Our best candidate has a relevant University degree or equal, with a minimum of five years of broad managerial experience in a similar position. We are looking for a person who is highly experienced in leading a technical team as line manager or project manager in a large international organization. Solid understanding of project management and excellent people management, leadership and coaching skills is a must. Fluency in English is a prerequisite, a good command of Swedish is desirable. Technical background in one of the following is beneficial; energy system modelling/optimization, district heating or heat generation, process engineering.
As a person you have proven to be a leader naturally applying the Vattenfall leadership criteria being clear, visible & courageous. You are flexible, structured and an effective communicator with superior interpersonal skills. You have good judgement, a proven problem solving mindset and an excellent ability to build networks. You are a team player who actively engages people. You have strong management and collaboration skills ensuring effective collaboration with business leaders and other stakeholders.
Location Älvkarleby or Arenastaden in Solna. Travelling between these locations are expected.
