Data is transforming the society and business in an ever-increasing rate and scale, and the Big Data group is committed to position Volvo Cars among the best in the discipline. This is achieved by constantly evolving state-of-the-art methodology, maintaining the technical center of excellence, research collaborations, and owning the resources required to process the vast amounts of data involved.
Role
As industrial PhD student, you will research on methods and tools for on-board off-board distributed data processing and analysis of vehicle data. The Vinnova FFI project OODIDA (On-board Off-board Distributed Data Analysis) would deliver methodological foundations and practical limitations for distributed data analysis platform that is efficient and privacy safe for gaining functional insights from customer's perspective. The main research question will focus with research in the following areas:
* Live data analysis and subsequent continuous aggregation and transfer of statistical information from thousands of vehicles with consistent and deterministic intra- and inter-vehicle parallel and distributed analysis
* Development of statistical and machine learning algorithms and frameworks in a parallel and distributed environment
The position is a full-time employment and you will be a part of the Big Data group at Volvo Cars, as well as the Volvo Industrial Phd Program (VIPP). You will also be a PhD student at the department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Chalmers University of Technology, within the Distributed Computing and Systems (DCS) research group in the Networks and Systems Division, under the supervision of prof. Vincenzo Gulisano and Marina Papatriantafilou. The group has been acknowledged as one of the leading research groups in practical multi-core synchronization and programming internationally (with results adopted in Java JDK, C++) and has a strong background in data streaming and big data applications in the context of cyber-physical systems in energy and transportation.
Main responsibilities
* Perform research in the above mentioned areas and write academic journal papers and participate in related academic courses and conferences
* Document design and quality guidelines for on board off board distributed data analysis methods and programming models
Required skills and qualifications
To qualify as an industrial PhD student, you must have a solid background in Computer Science and Engineering or a related discipline, corresponding to a master's level degree.
