The section Vehicle and Body NVH CAE is a part of the NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) Center in the Product Development area at Volvo Car Group. The NVH Center has the responsibility to ensure that the attribute Noise and Vibration is supported in the vehicle programs, both in terms of customer and legal requirements. Within the CAE section we have the responsibility for both Vehicle and Body NVH CAE from a complete vehicle perspective in car programs and Advanced Engineering. The team works integrated in all project phases, contributing with analysis and guidelines to improve the NVH attribute in our cars.
We are now looking for an Industrial PhD Candidate - Aeroacoustics to work primarily with compressors and blowers. The first five years of employment will be dedicated to the research in co-operation with the Royal Institute of Technology. After dissertation, the plan is that you will take on a strategically important role related to the area of expertise within R&D at Volvo Car Group. Initially you will spend about 80 percent of your time with research and 20 percent focused on issues determined by Volvo Cars. To successfully accomplish the project, you should have very strong analytical skills, act independently and take initiatives.
Main responsibilities
• The main objective with the project is to develop methods and numerical tools to understand and predict the sound transfer properties and sound generation of IC engine boosting devices.
• The first goal with the project is to be able to use numerical methods to predict the sound generation in turbo compressors operating close to surge. This will include setting up and participating in experiments using hot gas stand for validation of numerical models.
• The second goal with the project is to use numerical models to describe a complete air intake installation with turbo compressor and optimize it for low flow noise with maintained engine performance.
• The third goal of the project is to predict the sound transfer properties of turbo compressors using numerical methods - i.e. a complete acoustic two-port.
Required qualifications
• M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics or Vehicle Engineering
• Fluent in English, written and spoken
• Competences in computational fluid dynamics and/or acoustics
